Team DRB: A commitment to do one thing to help the environment

We do our part to keep the planet clean, green, and healthy.

Do One Thing
DRB Capital team members care about the environment, and we do our part to keep the planet clean, green, and healthy.

One of our team members demonstrated a commitment to do one thing to help the environment by taking his family out to plant some trees in honor of Arbor Day 2019.

What is Arbor Day?
Arbor Day is typically observed in the spring when planting conditions are ideal, but this date is highly dependent on weather. This year’s date for Arbor Day was Friday, April 26th, 2019. Many countries around the world observe this holiday; in addition to the United States, some of the countries that also observe Arbor Day include Australia, Brazil, China, India, Japan, and Mexico. In the United States, the first observed Arbor Day was on April 10, 1872 in Nebraska City, Nebraska, when approximately one million trees were planted throughout the state.

The Importance of Planting Trees
Whether it’s on Arbor Day or any other day during the year (weather permitting), planting a tree is a great way to help the environment. Some of the many benefits of tree planting includes improved air quality, soil preservation, wildlife support, and more. At first glance, planting a single tree may not seem like a significant contribution, but imagine the impact if everyone did their part and took the time to plant just one tree each year. Collectively, the difference can be huge. At DRB, we look forward to taking part in this special day for years to come.

Did You Know?
Did you know that Americans throw away an estimated 25 billion (with a “B”!) Styrofoam cups every year? That’s around 82 cups per person! 80% of those cups ends up in landfills, and much of the remaining 20% ends up in our waterways. At DRB Capital we have decided to abandon the use of Styrofoam cups in our break room, and instead give each employee their own insulated thermos. We are all happy to do our part to help the environment in any way we can.

Looking for a new opportunity?
Exciting things are always happening here at DRB Capital, and if you enjoy giving back and donating your time for a good cause, you may very well just be a perfect fit for our team. Learn more about the current openings we have available and submit a resume for consideration.

Team DRB: Doug’s Passion

I truly love playing music and seeing people singing, dancing, and having a good time while I get to do something I enjoy.

As a young boy I had a passion for music and a fascination with the look and sound of a guitar.  I wanted to be one of the Beatles.  I loved their music and I thought they were so cool!  I even used my parent’s lawn rake for a guitar and formed a pretend Beatles “band” with my neighborhood friends (ah! the imagination of a child!).

One day, my uncle showed me how to play a simple rock-n-roll song on a real guitar.  I took off from there, teaching myself how to play in my teenage years.  Eventually I formed a real band with some high school buddies and won the school talent show!  It was a life changing event for me.  There was cheering, clapping, cameras flashing, and all of the girls were screaming for us (well…ok…maybe one or two :-).  I was hooked!

After graduating high school I chose to play music professionally instead of playing college baseball.  For years I played in bars and nightclubs all over south Florida and developed a following because I could play like Eddie Van Halen.  One of my favorite gigs was on the beach at a surfing contest.  There was a large enthusiastic crowd and some representatives from a local music magazine who featured our band in an article.  I felt like a rock star!

Though I stopped pursuing music as a career, I never lost my passion for it.  Playing in a rock-n-roll band is fun and kind of glamorous, but it’s hard work and it’s tough to make a living at it!  After years of being away from it, I dusted off my old guitar, replaced the rusty strings and started playing again just for fun which has led to where I am today: Fulfilling my passion for music by playing in bars and restaurants as a one man band a few nights a week.

I truly love playing music and seeing people singing, dancing, and having a good time while I get to do something I thoroughly enjoy doing.  For me that’s what it’s all about and there’s nothing like it!  Music is one of God’s coolest gifts and I really enjoy sharing it.

If there’s something you’re passionate about – just do it!

You just might fit in perfectly here at DRB, and we would love to hear from you!  Contact us today for more information and to learn more about the open positions we have available at DRB Capital.

Team DRB: Spreading Love

We believe this special day is not simply about cards and candy for that special someone in your life, but is about spreading love throughout your community.

Today is Valentine’s Day, and TeamDRB is feeling the love.  We believe this special day is not simply about cards and candy for that special someone in your life, but is about spreading love throughout your community.  To celebrate that idea, some of our teammates took the time today to visit some very special guests at Artis Senior Living of Boca Raton, and remind them that our community cares about them.

Artis of Boca Raton specializes in memory care and is passionately dedicated to their mission to promote optimal wellbeing for residents through strong partnerships between care associates, families, and residents themselves.  Every year, they host a wonderful Valentine’s Day party for their residents. This year, DRB team members stopped by to hand out some treats, gifts, and Valentine’s Day-themed items for all residents at the party, including chocolates, balloons, candy and flowers.  We were truly honored to be invited to Artis Senior Living of Boca Raton for this event and take part in this special day.

Thank you to all DRB team members who took the time to bring a smile to the faces of the residents at Artis Senior Living of Boca Raton!  If you would like to learn more about Artis Senior Living, call (484) 831-5310 or visit ArtisSeniorLiving.com

If you’re hard-working and also enjoy giving back to the community, you just might fit in perfectly here at DRB, and we would love to hear from you!  Contact us today for more information and to learn more about the open positions we have available at DRB Capital.

Team DRB 2019 New Year’s Resolutions

DRB Capital team members were asked for their resolutions for the new year, there were many different and creative responses.

Countless New Year’s resolutions are made every year. Most people will include items such as lose weight, go to the gym more frequently, eat better, give more to charity, spend more time with family, and make more money.

The concept of making new year’s resolutions may have begun 4,000 years with ancient Babylonians, continued with ancient Romans, and is alive today with 45% of Americans usually making some kind of resolution for the new year. Only 8%, however, report successfully keeping them.

When DRB Capital team members were asked for their resolutions for the new year, there were many different and creative responses for 2019.

The following are some of Team DRB’s New Year’s resolutions:

“My 2019 resolutions are: Use my cell phone less, read more books, eat less meat, drink less soda, do more cardio such as walking more, see more matinee movies, indulge in Taco Tuesdays only once a month.” – Greg, Team DRB Member.

One DRB team members mentioned the following. “My 2019 resolutions are: Laugh more and clap more.”

“Be healthier overall, be more environmentally friendly, spend more time outside.” – Mentioned by Phillipe, Team DRB member.

“Only eat junk food on Sundays, drink more water, complain less, stop biting my nails, wash my car more often!” – Olivia, Team DRB member.

S.B., Team DRB member says: “More Walking. More Sleeping. More Music. Less being indoors. More being outside. Less Red Meat. More Chicken. Less Black clothing. More Color for my Wardrobe. Less Stressed. More Meditation.”

Alex from Team DRB says “In 2019, I resolve to: Make overall healthier food choices. Read 18 non-fiction books. Be more mindful and appreciative of my family and to be more present in each moment (ditch the mobile phone). Play more board and card games with my kids. Identify the challenges that most impact our business and focus time and effort there. “

We’ll look at these again in 2020 and see how the team fared.

Do you have any resolutions you’d like to share? Let us know on Facebook, Twitter, or Linkedin! We’ll award one lucky person with a $25 cash gift card on February 28th, 2019 just for sharing their thoughts and using the hashtag #DRBCAP2019.

Team DRB Helps Government Employees Through Shutdown

We organized a food drive, collected 6 giant boxes of food and toiletries, and teamed up with Food Bank of South Jersey to help.

As of today the United States Federal Government has been shut down for 35 days, impacting countless federal workers and their families.  Team DRB’s US Claims office in New Jersey put politics aside and decided to help government employees who have not been receiving their paychecks to make ends meet.

We organized a food drive, collected 6 giant boxes of food and toiletries, and teamed up with Food Bank of South Jersey to help distribute these much needed supplies to needy families.

Food Bank of South Jersey has been providing food to people in need, delivering health and wellness programs, and designing sustainable solutions to help people improve their lives since 1985.

Every year they link nearly 12 million pounds of food with more than 150 charitable food providers! Team DRB is so proud to help those in need, and truly grateful for the work that South Jersey Food Bank does every single day.

Holiday Fun and Cheer at DRB Capital

Holiday Fun and Cheer at DRB Capital

We hope that everyone had an enjoyable and memorable holiday season with family and friends. As we bring in 2019, we reflect on some of our final moments of 2018, and all of the holiday fun and joy we experienced right here at DRB Capital.

As our team members know by now, we love to celebrate the holidays and spread holiday cheer throughout the office. It is, after all, the most wonderful time of the year.

One of the highlights at the end of 2018 was all of the delicious holiday goodies that team members brought in to share with others from December 1st through December 24th. What better way to celebrate the holidays, right? Some of the many tasty sweets that generous team members brought in included cakes, cookies, pies, gingerbread houses, brownies, and other holiday treats.

Many team members showcased their talents by showing off their baking skills with their homemade desserts. Although it was pretty difficult choosing a favorite, we had our team members vote for their top two picks.

Another notable event was our Ugly Sweater Day, when team members were invited to wear their tackiest, but most festive sweaters to work. Because what’s a holiday celebration without an ugly sweater party?

All in all, 2018 was a wonderful year here at DRB Capital, and we made a lot of fun memories together. We wish all team members and their loved ones a fantastic 2019, and we look forward to another year together!

If you’re interested in being a part of our team, contact us for more information.
