Team DRB: Doug’s Passion

I truly love playing music and seeing people singing, dancing, and having a good time while I get to do something I enjoy.

As a young boy I had a passion for music and a fascination with the look and sound of a guitar.  I wanted to be one of the Beatles.  I loved their music and I thought they were so cool!  I even used my parent’s lawn rake for a guitar and formed a pretend Beatles “band” with my neighborhood friends (ah! the imagination of a child!).

One day, my uncle showed me how to play a simple rock-n-roll song on a real guitar.  I took off from there, teaching myself how to play in my teenage years.  Eventually I formed a real band with some high school buddies and won the school talent show!  It was a life changing event for me.  There was cheering, clapping, cameras flashing, and all of the girls were screaming for us (well…ok…maybe one or two :-).  I was hooked!

After graduating high school I chose to play music professionally instead of playing college baseball.  For years I played in bars and nightclubs all over south Florida and developed a following because I could play like Eddie Van Halen.  One of my favorite gigs was on the beach at a surfing contest.  There was a large enthusiastic crowd and some representatives from a local music magazine who featured our band in an article.  I felt like a rock star!

Though I stopped pursuing music as a career, I never lost my passion for it.  Playing in a rock-n-roll band is fun and kind of glamorous, but it’s hard work and it’s tough to make a living at it!  After years of being away from it, I dusted off my old guitar, replaced the rusty strings and started playing again just for fun which has led to where I am today: Fulfilling my passion for music by playing in bars and restaurants as a one man band a few nights a week.

I truly love playing music and seeing people singing, dancing, and having a good time while I get to do something I thoroughly enjoy doing.  For me that’s what it’s all about and there’s nothing like it!  Music is one of God’s coolest gifts and I really enjoy sharing it.
