Work Hard, Play Hard is a mantra at Team DRB. We work hard every single day to provide real solutions for real people with real problems, but sometimes we take a few moments to celebrate with our team. Today we had a great get-together and enjoyed some great food and fun activities. This year we had a pumpkin wrapping contest with teams. Each team had to work together to wrap a pumpkin completely with paper, and demonstrate a final product that was neat, organized, and no pumpkin orange visible – all in under 2 minutes! Next, the teams bobbed for apples and pears to win prizes. For the last team game, we got everyone together for a team ring toss where the goal was to land a ring on the stem of a pumpkin.

After the games, it was time to chow down. We had fall favorites for lunch: chicken, green beans, mashed potatoes, cornbread, biscuits, pumpkin pie & apple pies, and more. To wrap up our celebration we had some Halloween costume fun. Prizes were awarded for scariest, funniest, most creative, and best team costume. Scary and creative Halloween sweets and treats were brought in as well to eat. Everyone looks forward to the costume party every year.

As Floridians, we know all too well the damage that a severe hurricane can do. Unfortunately we saw the catastrophic results these storms can bring once again when Hurricane Dorian pummeled our neighbors in the Bahamas. The members of TeamDRB have hearts to help and took the initiative to collect much-needed supplies to support those impacted by the storm. We worked with Seacoast Bank, who partnered with Operation 300, to mobilize recovery efforts to The Bahamas and the Red Cross to assist with the aftermath. Our team collected batteries, non-perishable food, cleaning supplies, first aid kits, and much more to aid the recovery.

Recently we became aware of a local need we could help meet. Pine Grove Elementary School, like many others, has a long list of supplies they need to make the school year a success for its students, and DRB Capital was able to step in to help.  Several team members and our partners as Blue Ocean Press gathered enough paper, pencils, folders, backpacks, crayons, erasers, and more to keep a full class of kids going for an entire semester.  Thinking about the children we are able to help focus on their formative education brings a smile to all of our faces and we are thrilled to be able to help.

Red, White & Blue, Fireworks, Barbecues, Independence, and a Women’s National Team World Cup win!  TeamDRB celebrated this 4th of July by combining many Independence Day favorites.  Team members enjoyed a lunch stocked with American Classics, participated in a “Patriotic Pride” contest, and shared what they love most about the United States.  You can see some of our red, white, and blue spirit in the pictures below.  USA!  USA!  USA!

At DRB Capital, we strongly believe in pitching in and doing our part whenever possible to make this world a better place. After all, this planet is the only one we have, and it’s our responsibility to ensure we take care of it for future generations.

One of the biggest environmental problems that exists today is pollution. Pollution comes in various forms and has many harmful effects, but marine life in particular is significantly affected. There are many disheartening headlines that continue to circulate about marine life washing up on our shores after ingesting plastic and other harmful materials that weren’t disposed of properly.

Some of these tragedies hit particularly close to home and happen right here in Florida.

Recently in Fort Myers, a dead dolphin with plastic in its stomach was found on the beach. CBS News reports that this is the second dolphin that was found with plastic in its stomach on the same beach in just a one-month period. The other dolphin was found with plastic bags and a piece of a balloon in her stomach, and although the dolphin was not dead when she was discovered, biologists at the FWC decided to “humanely euthanize” her to end her suffering.

Vox.com reports that this is a problem happening everywhere around the world, with a young sperm whale found dead in Italy with what is suspected to be due to ingesting plastic. Another sperm whale, who was pregnant, was also found washed up in Sardinia with more than 50 pounds of plastic in her stomach.

We can do our part to keep the ocean clean by not littering and limiting (or avoiding) plastic use altogether.  Also, joining together and participating in a beach cleanup can be a great way to really make a difference.

June 8, 2019 was World Oceans Day, and team members from DRB Capital participated in a local beach cleanup. Together, we got rid of a significant amount of plastic and other debris on the beach. We want to thank everyone who joined us on this special day and we hope you will join us again next year!

If you were unable to pitch on World Oceans Day, remember that you can always take the time to participate in a beach cleanup. If you don’t live near the beach you can clean up near a river, because rivers eventually lead to the ocean.  No effort is too small; even if it’s a solo beach cleanup and you’re just spending a few minutes cleaning up, your efforts can go a long way.

With Memorial Day approaching, DRB Capital wanted to take the time to thank those who have served in the military, along with their families. We are truly appreciative of the service to our country.

As the name of this meaningful holiday tells us, Memorial Day is a time for us to honor and remember the brave individuals who lost their lives while defending the United States of America.

Whether or not you personally know someone who has served in the military, we encourage you to take a moment to honor and remember those heroic individuals who have made the ultimate sacrifices for their fellow citizens this Memorial Day.

The history of Memorial Day is quite long and fascinating, with the first Memorial Day being observed in the northern states on May 30, 1868 and the first Memorial Day in the southern states being observed on April 25, 1866. During this time, the holiday was known as Decoration Day. Although Memorial Day used to be observed every year on May 30th from the years 1868 to 1970, Memorial Day is now observed on the last Monday of May every year. This year, the federal holiday will be observed on May 27, 2019.
