Team DRB: Back to School

The time has come for children to head back to school and begin a rather unique school year. With COVID-19 cases still on the rise, children are going to have to adapt to a new reality when it comes to learning and thriving without raising the risk of spreading COVID-19.

Whether children are going back to school or pursuing online education, this transition to our new normal can be difficult to children and parents alike. Since so many of our team members have kids, we want to share the latest information on what parents can expect:

According to UNICEF, these are some practical measures schools should be taking to prevent coronavirus from spreading:

  • Staggering the start and close of the school day
  • Staggering mealtimes
  • Moving classes to temporary spaces or outdoors
  • Holding school in shifts, to reduce class size

Hygiene measures should be put into place such as handwashing, coughing, sneezing into elbows, physical distancing measures, frequent cleaning procedures for facilities and safe food preparation services.

Some important questions to ask teachers and school administrators are:

  • What steps has the school taken to ensure students’ safety?
  • How is the school supporting children’s mental health during this difficult time?
  • How is the school going to handle bullying when it comes to the stigma surrounding children who have been sick?
  • What can I do to help?

There are new challenges for those who are not physically going back to school and will have to pursue online education. This can be quite demanding for parents who also have to work whether it be from home or the office. For assistance and tools to make this process easier, check out the following websites:

Team DRB: Independence Day

For many Americans, celebrating Independence Day typically involves fireworks, barbecues and large gatherings. However, this year, there is no doubt that this 4th of July will look completely different from previous years.

As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to increase in numbers, large fireworks shows have all been cancelled, many beaches & parks will be closed and people are encouraged to avoid large gatherings.

Although we can’t celebrate in the ways we are used to, we still wanted to do something fun here at DRB Capital. TeamDRB members wore their most patriotic gear and a prize was awarded to the most creatively dressed individual!  Check out photos below.

While we wish you all a great and fun filled holiday, we also advise you to take your precautions to be as safe as possible.

For more information on what is safe and not safe this holiday weekend, check out the following article: https://www.cnn.com/2020/06/27/us/july-4-weekend-safe-unsafe-coronavirus-trnd/index.html

Team DRB: Father’s Day

Father’s Day isn’t just a day for dads to get presents, it’s a day to honor dads, grandfathers, step-dads, brothers, uncles or any important male figure in our lives who have taken on the role of a father figure. Although mothers typically get the recognition they deserve, we tend to forget the sacrifices and contributions of our fathers and father figures.

We, at DRB Capital, want to take this opportunity to express our love and gratitude to these special people by showcasing what our team members who are Fathers love most about this important role. Here are some of our favorite answers below:

“Not having had a Father growing up, I love being able to provide guidance, wisdom, security and unconditional love to my little boy.”

“I love having an excuse to be silly without any judgement!”

“I enjoy coming home from work and being welcomed by my kids’ smiling and excited faces.”

“I like eating all the food my kids refuse to eat, my portions are always bigger since I’ve had kids!”

“Having a sense of purpose. My focus has changed since having kids, I don’t care about going on exotic vacations or going out to fancy restaurants. If I can be a good father, provide my children with a proper education and set them up for success, I will be the happiest I’ve ever been.”

“The most important and rewarding aspects of fatherhood, for me, are teaching my sons our values of right vs. wrong, how and why to be a good member of our community, how and why to selflessly love people and help those in need, what truly matters in life, and what leadership is all about.”

Team DRB: Safety First!

Ever since COVID-19 popped up and began to impact our daily lives, we’ve had to consider our safety and how our own behavior can impact others.  The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reports that the virus spreads mainly through close contact from person-to-person in respiratory droplets from someone who is infected but can also spread by a person touching a surface that has the virus on it and then touching their own mouth, nose, or perhaps eyes.

As we prepare to return to work, it’s important to understand these principles and to follow the guidance that the CDC has provided.  Here’s how TeamDRB is helping to keep us safe:

1) IF YOU FEEL SICK, stay home. Don’t come to the office or go anywhere else!  Contact your medical provider. If you start to feel sick during the workday, contact HR IMMEDIATELY. Employees who develop symptoms while in the office will be isolated and asked to go home.

2) When you arrive to the building, put on your mask before you get to the front door. We are not required to wear masks while sitting at our desk, but will be required to wear one should we move around the office.  All employees will be provided with gloves and masks, if they don’t have their own.

3) There will be a checkpoint at the main lobby area and the top of the stairwell. We will all have our temperatures taken and will be asked if we are experiencing, or have in the last 72 hours experienced, any of the symptoms associated with COVID-19 identified by the CDC. In the event any employee has a temperature or has experienced any of the listed symptoms, they will not be permitted to work in the office.

4) There should be no more than two people in an elevator at a time and employees are encouraged to wear masks while riding in an elevator with another person. The back stairwell is available to any employee that is not comfortable using the elevator. There will be a check in station set up at both entrances.

5) As you make your way from the lobby to our office, observe the signs and remember them!  Be mindful, don’t touch anything you don’t have to with your bare hands.  Wash your hands frequently, avoid touching your face, and keep 6 feet of space when near others.

6) Once you get into DRB, you’ll notice that we have hand sanitizer, gloves, paper towels and masks at the main entrance and distributed throughout. We will also be installing wall mounted hand sanitizer stations throughout the office. Building management will be installing wall mounted hand sanitizer stations near the elevators on each floor and has a crew cleaning and disinfecting twice a day.

7) The rows and aisles on the sales floors have been turned into one direction with arrows marking the flow of traffic. Social distancing of six feet is required at all times while in the office. Employees cannot congregate while in the office, including at each other’s cubicles.

8) Everyone who is going to return should bring with them all office equipment that they took home (i.e. headsets, laptop, keyboard, mouse, etc.). For the time being, we will not allow use of the microwaves, toaster ovens, refrigerators, plates, cups or utensils, so plan accordingly. Use of the breakroom is limited to one employee at a time and always remember 6 feet separation, and keep that mask on while away from your desk!

9) When using the restroom, please be extra considerate while taking care to wash your hands carefully and avoid touching handles with bare hands. All restrooms throughout the suite will be restricted to one person at a time. If you are waiting to enter the restroom we ask that you stand six feet away from the door until it is your turn.

Bottom line:  Don’t come to work if you’re sick or if you’ve been around someone who is sick.  Wash your hands often, keep your distance from others at all times, cover your mouth and nose when you sneeze or cough or when you are around others, and clean and disinfect frequently touched surfaces.  These are simple guidelines that the CDC has suggested, that DRB Capital has implemented, and that will help keep us all safe as we return to work.

If you have any questions or concerns please direct them to your supervisor.  Hope to see you soon!

Team DRB: #MajorMissing Challenge

As we finish week 8 of working remotely, it is completely normal for many of us to be missing the daily pleasures of pre-quarantine life. Whether it’s going out for a cup of coffee, watching a movie at the movie theater or enjoying a meal with friends, there are so many activities that one may feel nostalgic about.

While we are grateful to be able to continue working from the comfort of our homes during these unprecedented times, there are still things we miss about “going to work”. We asked some of our fellow team members to share some of the things they miss. The answers made us smile and gave us something to look forward to in the near future.

Check out some of their answers below:

  • Laughs with coworkers
  • Music in the office
  • The HUGE coffee selection
  • Driving to & from work
  • Casual Fridays
  • Catered Lunches
  • Face-to-face meetings
  • Seeing friendly faces throughout the day
  • The collaborative environment
  • The positive vibes & energy that flows throughout the office

At DRB, we are all truly grateful to be part of such a wonderful team with great talent.  It’s an honor to work with the best in the business, and we look forward to being reunited in the near future.

Team DRB: Artis Senior Living Lunch

As the coronavirus pandemic continues to affect our everyday lives, it is easy to feel discouraged and overwhelmed when so many people are struggling in different ways. However, while many of us are safe and cozy at home, we tend to forget that there are tons of people getting up every single day and risking their lives to help others or to meet our everyday needs.

Team members at DRB Capital are always looking for new ways to help our community and this time was no different. While it is difficult to show gratitude for our essential workers during this time, it is not impossible and we all came up with a plan. Why not provide a delicious lunch spread to all the employees working hard? That’s when we decided to partner up with a memory care assisted living facility we are familiar with, Artis Senior Living of Boca Raton.

To express our admiration, appreciation and support, we provided the facility with a beautiful heartfelt letter and a delicious meal from the employees’ favorite lunch spot, Pollo Tropical. All employees got to enjoy a selection of; chicken, vegetables, rice and beans accompanied with a selection of cold drinks.

This small act of kindness was greatly appreciated by all staff members. They were extremely touched by our letter and appreciated the food. It warmed all of our hearts to be able to do something to make these extremely hard working and dedicated people smile.
